thursday night, dj mehdi

part of the reason for no post yesterday was that i was still recovering from the night before. glasgow's sub club was taken over by parisian DJ mehdi and you can bet your arse i was there.

probably the craziest night since the last time the fool's gold/ed banger crew visited the same club and a-trak tore up the decks, only recent visits to dundee's reading rooms come close. i won't pretend to be able to remember the set-list, because apart from fucking loving it, i can't remember all that much but i do remember mehdi definitely looked liked he was enjoying himself as much as the crowd. too often big name DJs will stand in their booth looking positively bored, churning out a set list that they've probably played 100 times already. mehdi however proved he doesn't get stale. near the end i staggered up to the booth and requested his most commercial track, "i am somebody" and when i talked to him at the end, asking why it didn't get played he replied "it's OLD man!". this is one deck jockey who doesn't rely on old tricks.

in all honesty, mehdi was better than a-trak was in the same venue months ago. kanye's ex tour DJ might get all the hype, he might be held aloft as a technical genius but truly, mehdi showed him up.
